Viewers were left shocked tonight as they witnessed Alex Jones and Holly Valance get the boot from Strictly Come Dancing.

The two female contestants saw their dreams of lifting the coveted glitter-ball trophy slip away as they were voted off the semi-final results show.

The surprise exit sets up a final dance off between Australian actor Jason Donovan, McFly drummer Harry Judd and Waterloo Road actress Chelsee Healey.

Jason and Chelsee both gave great performances on last night's show and each scored the first perfect 40 scores of the series.

Rival dancer Harry also did well and received a score of 39 from the judges on both of his performances.

The impressive results left Jones and Valance at the bottom of the leader-board ahead of the audience's vote.

Jones, who is the host of BBC's The One Show, said she had had a 'brilliant' time on the show despite sometimes getting her left and right confused.

She said: 'I've had an incredible time, and when I'm old and grey I'll look back at these three months and I'll think 'that was a brilliant time'.'

Her professional partner James Jordan praised her dedication and said: 'If there was a trophy for the most improved dancer, for sure you would have won that trophy.

'I would like to say whoever gets to work with you in the future is very, very lucky. You have been absolutely brilliant to work with, it has been an honour.'

Former Neighbours star Holly took the bad news of her departure graciously and said: 'I'm just proud that we've been part of the most successful Strictly.

As she fought back tears she added: 'The British public has been incredible, this is much further than we ever thought we could ever imagine.'

Both couples then took to the floor one last time for their final dance as The Winner Takes It All by Abba played out.

The show kicked off with an explosive and passionate dance from the professionals with Kristina Rihanoff taking centre stage.

The ballroom dancer began with a large purple dress that was flowing in the wind before having it ripped it off to reveal a leotard.

Next American soul man Aloe Blacc entertained the audience with a rendition of I Need A Dollar.

The singer, who wore a black suit and bow tie, was joined by Brendan Cole and Kristina who strutted around the dance-floor and received a standing ovation.

Choir master Gareth Malone and The Military Wives brought a Christmas feeling to the night and sang Wherever You Are.

Judge Bruno Tonioli predicted that 'prince Harry could be king of the ballroom' and tipped him to win the final.

Harry said: 'I've been to Blackpool a few time and I'm just honoured to be dancing there.'

Strictly Come Dancing's live Grand Final will be broadcast on BBC One next Saturday and Sunday from Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
