Well after about six months of fantastic alphabetically inspired posts from some great crime fiction bloggers in several countries, we’re getting really close to the finale of the Crime Fiction Alphabet, version 2.011. We’ve now reached the penultimate week and the penultimate letter, ‘Y’.
This week, I’m highlighting one of Yvonne Eve Walus’s crime novels, MURDER @ PLAY (Echelon Press, 2009). Walus is a New Zealand-based author who has lived on three continents, experience and knowledge she brings to her writing. MURDER @ PLAY, along with its predecessor MURDER @ WORK, is set in the “tumultuous and exotic South Africa of the past” and stars amateur detective Christine Chamberlain, who has been described as “Stephanie Plum with a brain”.
Here is the back cover blurb for MURDER @ PLAY:
“Every marriage needs a touch of mystery, or does it?
In the new free South Africa of 1994, men are still boss, women carry handguns for self-protection, and some mistakes can change your life forever.
When a body is found during their weekend away with friends, Christine Chamberlain must use her brilliant mathematical mind to prove her husband’s innocence.
... whether he’s innocent or not.
When it comes to your loved ones, is it possible to know too much?"
You can read the author's 9mm interview with Crime Watch, from last year, here.
You can read more about Yvonne E. Walus here, and see the full list of blogs she contributes to here. MURDER @ PLAY is now also available on Kindle (see here) for a very reasonable price.
Do you enjoy crime fiction centred on amateur sleuths? Crime fiction set in South Africa? Do you like finding good books from smaller publishers?
